You can't start from zero anymore

From October 2026, Japan won't approve a language-school visa unless you can demonstrate A1-level Japanese — proven by a recognised test or an interview at the school. The old "just show up and learn it there" route is closed.

A1 is the basics: greetings, self-introductions, numbers, the first hundred words and the grammar that holds them together. That is exactly what the early volumes drill. The songs are the fastest, least painful way to clear the bar.
